The engineer responsible for what each performer hears on stage, sending discrete mixes to wedges or in-ears via the monitor console (usually stage-right or stage-left, with a clear sightline to the band). Distinct from FOH, who handles what the audience hears. Monitor engineers spend the show watching for hand signals from band members and tweaking individual mixes as they play. On smaller tours the FOH engineer doubles as monitor engineer; on larger tours these are always separate people.
